Leadership Development
The quality of leadership in any community is not to be taken for granted. New leaders must be trained, educated and informed. Council Bluff’s adult and youth leadership programs are concentrated training programs expressly designed to develop the leadership potential existing in our community. Under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce, the program continues to be a commitment to the future and the leadership that will be needed to meet the demands of tomorrow for the Council Bluffs area.
The Council Bluffs Chamber believes that Leadership programs offer an opportunity to invest, in the most direct way possible, in the future of the community. Through these programs, potential leaders are exposed to a range of ideas and experiences that will best prepare them to guide Council Bluffs toward achieving its highest potential.
Leadership Council Bluffs and Youth Leadership Council Bluffs provide a continuing resource of leaders by strengthening those qualities essential to all men and women and future leaders who wish to serve effectively: knowledge of community, individual leadership, and civic responsibility. In the course of the program, members will develop the skills needed to participate in the processes that form the foundation of civic leadership: coalition building, significant dialog, creative problem solving, and consensus building.
Both programs promote diversity and expand awareness by recruiting candidates from all sectors of the community: business, public agencies, nonprofit, education and the professions. Each applicant, if accepted, commits to an attendance of the monthly all day sessions, which present varied approaches to the issues facing every community.
Group members will share their ideas and learn from each other's experiences, as well as participate in exercises, field trips, and presentations by local leaders.
