Southwest Iowa Industrial Park Marketing Corporation
In 1993, the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors purchased three farms south of the MidAmerican Energy power plant that make up the 477-acre Southwest Iowa Industrial Park. The board of supervisors appointed a 7-member, steering committee that evolved into the Southwest Iowa Industrial Park Marketing Corporation. The corporation solicits funds and supervises the marketing and development efforts of the park. To capitalize on the unique qualities of the site and to gain maximum economic impact from its development, the current marketing thrust has been toward value-added agricultural industries.
The Bunge Corporation investigated the Southwest Iowa Industrial Park site in January 1996. After a number of site visits, Bunge elected to purchase a nearby site rather than locate in the actual industrial park, but without the presence of the Southwest Iowa Industrial Park, it is highly unlikely that Bunge would have been attracted to Council Bluffs in the first place and eventually construct its $100 million facility.
