The Bunge Corporation conducted a nationwide site search for the location of what would become North America's largest soybean crusher/refinery. The Southwest Iowa Industrial Park, located just south of Council Bluffs, became the top candidate for the $100 million facility.
Because of the size and scope of the project, Bunge qualified for the New Jobs and Income Program (now a part of the High Quality Jobs Program).
Bunge chose a location in southwest Council Bluffs and qualified for a 10-year property tax abatement, a 10% investment tax credit, a refund of sales and service taxes related to the project and doubled job-training benefits. Bunge also received a $1 million grant and a $1 million interest free loan from the state of Iowa to help with rail improvements to the site.
Bunge's facility currently employs 126 people, purchasing 55 million bushels of soybeans per year.
