Electric

The Council Bluffs region is served by MidAmerican Energy several rural electric cooperatives, which consistently provides reliable service to customers and energy rates below regional or national averages.

Gas

Black Hills Energy serves the Council Bluffs region. Black Hills Corporation acquired Aquila's natural gas properties in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska allowing buying clout that ensures its customers the most competitive prices.

Water

Each municipality provides water service to their respective area. The region also has rural water districts serving areas outside the municipal boundaries. The region has the luxury of an affordable source of water fed by the Missouri River.

Sewer

Each municipality operates sewage treatment facilities for their respective areas.

3-County Telecommunications

The metropolitan area is recognized as the national leader in telecommunications and tele-technology industries serving a global market. The Greater Council Bluffs Region is strategically located at the convergence of several national fiber optic networks with multiple points of presence (POPs) located in the metro area.

Council Bluffs' local telephone service is offered by Qwest Communications. Qwest offers a wide variety of services to our area including frame relay service, caller ID, SHNS, ISDN, SHARP, Command-a-Link, Custom Local Area Signaling, Digital Switchboard Service, Transparent LAN Service, Frame Relay, and Synchronous Service Transport.

Cox Communications also provides local telephone service.
