Presentation Topic: Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia
Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. Join us to learn about the impact of Alzheimer's, the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia, stages and risk factors (Including groups of people at higher risk like women, Black, Latino, etc.), current research and treatments available for some symptoms, and Alzheimer's Association resources.
Detailed bulletin points -- Join us to learn about the impact of Alzheimer's (statistics nationally, state-specific and personal testimonial videos of individuals when they were still working)
- The difference between Alzheimer's and dementia (Warning signs in case you are worried about someone in the workforce)
- Stages and risk factors (Including groups of people at higher risk like women, Black, Latino, etc.)
- Current research and treatments available for some symptoms (information on the newest drug, over 900 research projects globally, etc.)
- Alzheimer's Association resources (24/7 helpline with master-level clinicians, alz.org, caregiver support groups, community education, and much more)..
What to be on the lookout for within the Workforce for employees (not just 65 and above) that could be at high risk for a cognitive decline, the struggles that caregivers go through especially if still trying to retain a job (Nearly 19% of women Alzheimer’s caregivers had to QUIT WORK either to become a caregiver or because their caregiving duties became too burdensome) (MORE THAN 60% of Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers are women. More specifically, over one-third of dementia caregivers are daughters.) (Women take on MORE CAREGIVING TASKS than their male counterparts – and care for people with more cognitive, functional, and/or behavioral problems) and what are next steps to care for caregivers, support employees, and connect the dots safely for their future.
