Iowa School for the Deaf
Position Announcement: Teacher of the Deaf - Intellectual Disabilities - start August 2023
ISD is looking for a full-time teacher of the deaf to work with deaf/hard of hearing students with
intellectual disabilities. This position will serve in our secondary school self-contained classroom
teaching grades 6-12.
Primary Functions
• Assume responsibility for providing a quality educational program
• Formulate appropriate educational objectives, activities, and evaluations
• Report student growth and programs to parents periodically
• Maintain classroom discipline
• Facilitate implementation of the school's Communication Policy
Qualifications
Requires an Iowa teaching license with at least one of the following endorsements*:
264 K-12 Instructional Strategist II: ID
266 Birth-21 Deaf/Hard of Hearing
*Additional endorsements beneficial
Applicants must possess the ability to reach the level of sign language proficiency designated for the position within the time frame established by the school's Sign Language Policy.
Salary and Benefits: Determined by educational and teaching experience (BA degree - $47,500-$73,000; MA degree - $55,700-$85,900). Opportunities to coach/sponsor extra-curricular activities.

Work Schedule: Full-time, school year. First year contract - 191 days; subsequent years - 189 days.
