  • Executive Director

    SUMMARY

    Under the direction of the Council Bluffs Soccer Club Board of Directors the Executive Director oversees and leads all Council Bluffs Soccer Club (CBSC) related business, facilities and staff. Primary job duties include, but are not limited to: oversight of the Recreational and Select Soccer Programs and the Iowa West Sports Plex facility; hire, retain, manage and support key leadership staff members; oversees the CBSC budget and provides sound financial recommendations and results to the CBSC Board of Directors; builds relationships within the community and will actively fundraise to support the mission of the organization. This position is full-time and the ideal candidate will love soccer and have in depth soccer experience, have 501(c)(3) management/budget experience, 3+ years people management skills, ability and willingness to fundraise, an outgoing personality, positive attitude and be flexible as weekend and evening hours will be occasionally required.

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Includes but are not limited to the following:

    • Confers with the Board of Directors, staff, national organizations, leagues, individuals, groups and committees to implement and extend CBSC’s mission, vision, goals, programs, and services.

    • Conducts the daily business of the association in the matter of monitoring and enforcing contracts, contracting of supplies and services, payment of invoices and bills, maintaining appropriate financial records as required to maintain nonprofit status with the United States government, incorporation status with the State of Iowa Secretary of State and charitable organization status with the Iowa Attorney General.

    • Work with the Treasurer and Board to develop financial goals and budget and recognize and assess key indicators of financial health of the association throughout the year. 

    • Ensure quality of programs and services and effective use of resources.

    • Recommends enhancements to bylaws, rules and regulations and policies to the Board of Directors on an ongoing basis but no less than every two years.

    • Prepares written materials for all programs. 

    • Maintain and submit current club structure (org chart) along with future/anticipated staffing needs or changes at least annually to CBSC Board.

    • Develops and updates personnel policies, benefits, job descriptions, and recommends new positions.

    • Completes annual personnel reviews and provides update to CBSC board prior to delivery 

    • Represents CBSC in and outside of the soccer community. Ensures all paid positions represent CBSC according to our Core Values. 

    • Liaison to business and soccer community, Chamber of Commerce(s), CB Visitor Bureau, City Hall, YMCA and other strategic partners. 

    • Obtains corporate alliances, sponsorships, and fulfills sponsorship agreements.

    • Seeks and obtains grants and oversees development opportunities.

    • Manages an Intern Program to train the next generation of administrators by maintaining relationships with local colleges.

    • Must be able to problem solve, collect and report out on data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. 

    • Must be able to travel overnight on CBSC business which may range from 3-5 overnights.

    • Help create 5 and 10 year goals for the club.

    • Other duties assigned by BOD.

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Directly supervises various positions including the Director of Coaching and Player Development and the Facility Manager

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to consistently and independently meet expectations while performing each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Must have a good understanding of the local and surrounding metro area soccer community and non-profit organizations.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s degree or experience equivalent; or six (6) to ten (10) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Has experience in managing an office of five or more people and five years organizational or business development experience.

     

    LEADERSHIP SKILLS and MANAGEMENT ABILITY

    Ability to demonstrate planning, prioritizing and organizing, decision making, self-motivation, and exemplary management and leadership skills.  Ability to facilitate and adapt strategically to changing markets and implement the vision and mission of the Board to address the growth of soccer. The Execute Director should consistently demonstrate the following behaviors:  trust, compassion, integrity, honesty, dignity, fairness, respect and to follow the clubs core values.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using professional techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to membership, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

    Ability to read, write and interpret documents on policies and procedures. Ability to explain to CB community procedures for enrolling in various programs. Ability to understand, use and train on various computer software and hardware systems and databases. Ability to use the Internet and manage all social/communication sites.

    Ability to write clearly about complex issues for public understanding. Ability to write persuasive communications to further the goals and objectives of CBSC.

    BACKGROUND

    Must be able to pass a background check and be bonded and eligible to work in the United States.
