    The City of Council Bluffs will accept applications for the position of Police Officer until January 28, 2022. Any offers of employment are conditional, subject to candidates passing a background investigation, which includes a polygraph and a medical exam to include drug testing.

    HIRING BONUS FOR CURRENTLY CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICERS!
    The Council Bluffs Police Department will pay a $10,000 hiring bonus to any certified peace officer who successfully completed the hiring process, accepts a position with the City, and whose certification is from the State of Iowa or a state that the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy recognizes and has a reciprocal agreement with. To be eligible, the candidate will be required to present current certification from the law enforcement institution/academy they attended. If the certification is not from the State of Iowa, the Police Department will verify with the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy that they will accept the certification.
    The hiring bonus will be subject to the following payout schedule:
    1. $5,000 will be paid on the first payroll check following the successful completion of 30 days of employment.
    2. $5,000 will be paid on the first payroll check following the successful completion of the 9 month probationary period.
    **Failure to comply with the above stated requirements will result in a forfeiture of the payment.
    **All hiring bonus payments made to a qualified officer are subject to any and all legal withholding obligations.

    Candidates who are not currently certified peace officers must attend the Physical Agility Exam and Written Exam. Candidates who are currently certified peace officers recognized by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy must attend the Physical Agility Exam but are not required to attend the Written Exam. The physical agility exam will be held indoors on February 26, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Dr. John & Jean Marshall Wellness Center located on the Iowa Western Community College campus in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The written exam will be held at the Council Bluffs Police Station at 1:00 p.m. on the same date. **If there is a low number of candidates that show up for testing, we will have the written exam 60 minutes after the physical agility exam. This will be announced prior to dismissal of the physical agility exam so that all candidates are aware.
    **Candidates who are currently certified peace officers through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy or by a law enforcement agency accepted by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy must submit proof of certification by the application deadline. If a candidate does not submit proof of certification by the application deadline, the candidate will only be allowed to follow the testing procedures for Police Officer (non-certified).

    Candidates are required to show picture I.D. at each phase of the test process and must be 21 years old on or before February 26, 2022. Applicants will be required to live within 30 miles of City Hall which can include both Iowa and Nebraska by the date of hire.
