ENVIRONMENT: West Broadway Clinic, P.C. is a progressive physician practice serving residents of Southwest Iowa. Founded in 2008, the practice strives to combine solid clinical outcomes with innovative leadership to improve the way care is delivered in the region. NATURE AND SCOPE: The incumbent reports directly to the Practice Administrator. The receptionist is responsible for greeting visitors, accurately registering patients, and serving as the first point of contact for the practice. The incumbent works collaboratively with physicians, clinical and non-clinical staff, patients, vendors and other leaders to achieve clinic Mission, Vision and objectives. The incumbent has contact with all West Broadway Clinic internal and external community groups, third party payors, consultants, agencies, vendors, health care affiliates and other interested parties. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Greets all patients and families with a welcoming smile and serves as the first point of contact for the clinic. 2. Receives, assesses, prioritizes, documents and facilitates response to incoming clinic calls. Answers the telephone in three rings or less and is able to communicate a sense of caring and calm to patients, families and clients. 3. Maintains responsibility for cultivating a nurturing environment in the lobby while ensuring efficiency in patient flow. 4. Registers patients by collecting accurate demographic and insurance information, as well as obtaining appropriate consents and providing any other required materials and documents accurately in the Electronic Medical Record/Practice Management software. 5. Demonstrates time management and organizational skills with the ability to make sound, independent decisions. 6. Schedules appointments, tests, and treatments. 7. Demonstrates work practices consistent with West Broadway Clinic, PC safety, security and infection control policies. 8. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: A minimum of one year in a customer service field. Previous work in an ambulatory physician practice is strongly preferred. Education: A minimum of a high school diploma. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Must have effective written and verbal communication skills and enjoy solving problems on behalf of patients. Demonstrated ability to interact with people of diverse ages, backgrounds and educational levels. Must be proficient in accessing, inputting, and retrieving information from a computer. Ability to work calmly under stress, high volumes, and with multiple interruptions. Incumbent must demonstrate personal traits of self-motivation; team orientation; professionalism; trust; hard working; willing to have fun in the work place; and place a high value on treating others with dignity and respect. Working Conditions Normal clinic environment. Routine periods of sitting, walking and standing required. Occasional after-hours and weekend events.
