    The Chief Development Officer for Children’s Square is a key member of the leadership team and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting Children’s Square.  This position serves as a strategic partner to the President and CEO, Board of Directors, and Board of Trustees with overall responsibility for designing, initiating, and executing development programs to further the mission to impact children and their families' lives.

    The CDO will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to significantly grow an annual budget by solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support. 

    Expansion and diversification of Children's Square's donor base and working closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives are imperative to this role.   Additionally the CDO will work closely with the Board of Directors, Board of Trustees, and Friends of Children's Square as they take on an active fundraising role, building the Foundation investments to $10M. 


    • Support and partner with the President and CEO and board members on all major fundraising initiatives and collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop and implement Children’s Square’s financial strategy.
    • Actively work to create and execute a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, government grants, etc. 
    • Design and execute annual development and marketing plans.
    • Oversee all forms of communication including website production, social media, print media, and video and radio production.
    • Have primary responsibility for development and execution of all proposals; write and archive all proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach.
    • Oversee research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position Children’s Square ahead of major funding changes or trends.
    • Monitor all donor information, provide and present statistical analysis to board and senior leaders.
    • Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors.
    • Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program.
    • Identify, develop, and mentor the development team.
    • Provides quality supervision and inspirational leadership to direct reports to carry out effective marketing and development activities to achieve deliverables.


    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or public administration (or a related field.) 
    • Master’s degree preferred
    • Three to five years related fundraising experience including demonstrated results in annual giving, foundation and corporate solicitations, major gifts, planned gifts, communications, and special events.
    • Exceptional verbal and interpersonal skills
    • Positive and collaborative attitude when managing groups and overseeing initiatives
