The Rural Parent Educator will serve families located in Avoca, Walnut, Oakland, Treynor, IA, and surrounding areas.

    As a Parent Educator, you will…

    • Provide educational, emotional resource support to families with regularity and consistency.
    • Complete in a timely fashion statistical data on families, including screenings and analysis of caregiver/child interaction as required by grant sources.
    • Collaborate and network with community providers and organizations in order to link families with needed services offered by other community providers.
    • Screen children for developmental milestones; interpret screening results and observations to parents, supervisors, and professionals; and report to supervisor screening results that indicate cautions or delays.
    • Analyze, reinforce, and support positive interactions, models appropriate caregiver interactions, educate caregivers on developmentally appropriate practice.
    • Design and participate in recruitment activities especially promoting increased awareness of services by educating the public and linking with other programs.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all families; communicate orally and in writing to parents, professionals, and other agencies.
    • Plan and implement activities for families and children that are culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate both in individual and group settings.
    • Assist in determining enrollment eligibility based on funding requirements and ensure all required information is entered into ChildPlus.
    • Abide by all specific program and Agency procedures, policies, and requirements.
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested.

    You’ll need to have…

    • Have a minimum of an Associate's degree or a home-based Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
    • Knowledge of infant and child development.
    • Ability to observe and report accurately on the functioning of individuals, children, and families.
    • Must have a flexible schedule to include nights and or weekends.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
    • Successful parenting and/or child care experience.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record, plus the ability to provide own transportation to complete travel requirements of the job.
    • Willingness and ability to pass background checks, drug tests, and any other examination required by FAMILY, Inc., federal law, and/or the State of Iowa.

    Bonus points if you have…

    · A Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in a related discipline.

    · PAT (Parents as Teachers) Certification

    · Experience working with, or assisting, at-risk children and families through home visitation.

    · Knowledge of community resources.
