    Seasonal Park Maintenance
     
    Location: Parks Maintenance Building - 3200 16th Avenue
    Starting Pay: $13/HR (Pay dependent on specific position and experience)
    Potential Shifts:

    • Days covered: 7 days per week (A variety of weekend, part-time, and full-time shifts are available.)
    • Hours covered: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (A variety of hours are available. The specific hours depend on the specific position the person is assigned to.)
    • Exact days and hours are based on the specific area assigned to within Park Maintenance
    • Most seasonal positions average 40 hours per week
    Duration of Season: April through November (Depending on the weather)
    Age Requirement: Must be 18 years or older
    Dress Code Requirements: Long pants, no ripped or torn clothing, no clothing with inappropriate logos or sayings, staff shirt/high visibility vest provided, shirts must have sleeves

    Summary: An employee in this class is responsible for aiding in the care and maintenance of various parks, recreational trails, streetscapes, urban forestry functions, and public property located within the City park system. Applicants will have the ability to indicate on their application whether they are interested in being on a mow crew, working with horticulture/landscaping, and/or doing general park maintenance.
     
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
     
    Park Duties:
    • Digs and fills holes
    • Picks up trash
    • Performs general labor tasks as needed
    • Assists in installation and minor repair of sprinkler systems in City park and recreation areas
    • Builds and repairs park benches, tables, fences, signs, and related structures
    • Plants, trims, transplants, and cares for ornamental shrubs, plants, and roses
    • Weeds, cultivates, plants, fertilizes, and irrigates lawns and flower beds
    • Mows, aerates, and edges lawn areas using power and hand tools
    • Rakes, sweeps, and vacuums leaves, lawn clippings, etc., using power blower and hand tools
    • Prunes and trims hedges, bushes, and other shrubbery
    • Cleans and maintains public facilities in City park and recreation areas
    • Performs other ground maintenance assignments as directed
    Equipment Duties:
    • Uses string trimmers and leaf blowers
    • Uses hand tools and small power tools to assist with maintenance work
    • Operates and maintains small power equipment and machinery including chain saws, rototillers, lawnmowers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, and other equipment
    • Operates utility and industrial tractors and all attachments and implements
    • Operates pickup trucks, single axle trucks, and other maintenance vehicles with gross vehicles weight of less than 2,600 pounds
    • Operates other engine powered grounds maintenance equipment as assigned
    • Services assigned equipment and performs routine repairs to machinery and equipment as assigned
    Other Duties:
    • Regular and predictable attendance is required
    • Other duties as assigned

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Valid Driver’s License
     
    Physical Demands:
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and see, talk, and hear.
    • The employee must be able to occasionally lift and work with up to seventy (70) pounds.
    • The employee must be able to frequently lift and work with up to twenty (20) pounds.
    • The employee must be able to continuously lift and work with up to ten (10) pounds.
    • Must have the ability to work both in and out of doors in all weather conditions.
