    The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Communications Division, is seeking dependable, assertive, dedicated individuals 
    who have integrity and leadership to enhance the lives of others, through service by becoming a Telecommunications Operator that
    will go above and beyond the call of duty.

    • You become the calm voice that ensures the safety of those in need by dispatching calls either emergency and non-emergency.
    • This is an adrenaline pumping position where no two days are the same!
    This position is responsible for providing citizens with the highest quality of service by ensuring safe and efficient screening
    and processing of emergency telephone calls requiring emergency action by public safety agencies.
     

    The pay range for this position is $23.27-$29.79.

        • The testing will include several phases and assesses the following skills: typing speed, date entry, call summarization,                                  memory recall, map reading, spelling, sentence clarity, and reading comprehension. To learn more, click here.
      • Completion of Background [provided to passing score candidate at testing] and 1st Interview
      • Observation and 2nd Interview
      • Voice Stress and/or polygraph exam
      • Medical and Drug Screen
        • Vision abilities required
          • close vision
          • the ability to adjust focus
          • ability to distinguish colors
          • Correctable to 20/40 in each eye and together
        • Hearing abilities required
          • No hearing loss in either ear greater than 40 decibels at 500/1000/2000/4000 hertz
          • With or Without the use of a hearing aid
      • Psychological Exam
    SCHEDULE:
    Effective July 1, 2022, some exciting changes are coming to the 911 schedule!
    Hours of work will be 12 hour shifts; 6:00 AM to 6:00 P.M. or 6:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. Employees will enjoy every other                                           
    Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off! 


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Must be 18 years of age
    • Ability to read, write/type, and speak English fluently
    HIRING PROCESS:
    Selected applicants will be required to pass all phases of the hiring process that are listed below before final employment. 
    If you are a veteran and qualify for veteran’s preference points, you will be required to provide copy of your DD-214.  You may attach to your application.
