Primary Function:Under general supervision, operates and services school busses and other multi passenger vehicles for city transportation and over the road trips of extended duration. Hours will fluctuate and vary –depending on student needs and extracurricular activities schedule. Typical Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Operates school buses on various routes. 2. Performs routine service on the bus. 3. Drives for out-of-towntrips. 4. Trains other staff who are pursuing bus driver licensure. 5.Keeps records including mileage on trips, allotted expense money, etc. 6. Makes decisions regarding response to weather conditions, road routes, detours and last-minute schedule changes. 7. Operates large vehicles for extended hours on out-of-town trips which may last for multiple days. 8. Performs additional responsibilities as assigned or requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of diesel engines and necessary maintenance schedules and procedures. 2. Ability to make decisions under pressure affecting the safety of passengers and equipment. 3. Ability to get along with others in a confined space for long periods of time.
4.Ability to drive both large and small multi passenger vehicles. 5.Ability to use hand tools in maintenance of bus.
Position Requirements:Position requires applicant to have possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License with a current School Bus “S” endorsement and the Passenger “P” endorsement. Within six months of hire will complete state S.T.O.P. training program for Iowa school bus drivers. Three years’ experience in over the road truck or bus driving. Applicants must have the ability to reach the level of sign language proficiency designated for the position within the timeframe established by the School’s Sign Language Communication Policy. A negative pre-employment drug test is required. Once hired, employee will be required to participate in drug and alcohol testing (random, post-accident and suspicion). Applicant must have satisfactory criminal history; motor vehicle records; and abuse registry background checks before hire. Work Schedule:Full-time, school year position; Hours may vary; typically 30-40 hours per week with some weekend and evening hours. Wage and Benefits:Pay Starts: $21.00/hour.
