  • Weekend Van Driver/Chaperone

    Iowa School for the Deaf currently needs part-time (on call, as needed) Weekend Van Drivers and transportation Chaperones. Duties include driving and chaperoning students in mini-vans to and from school on weekends, normally Friday and Sundays.

    Looking for mature, responsible applicants who can assure the safety and well-being of school aged, deaf and hard-of-hearing and/ or blind students and who can effectively communicate with parents and other school employees.

    Signing skills and experience working with children preferred.

    Need to have an Iowa chauffeur’s license OR a Nebraska driver’s license and a State of Iowa, Department of Education School Bus Operators permit. If hired, ISD will assist with obtaining the required training for this permit. Drivers must be able to pass the Iowa Department of Education physical.

    Applicant must have satisfactory criminal history, sexual offenders, child and adult abuse registry background checks before hire. Driver positions also require Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Records check.

    Wage: $18.11/hour; no benefits.

    Work Schedule: Part-time, on call, as needed. This is a school year position (no work and no pay during school breaks such as summer break). Normally Friday and Sunday routes. Friday routes start 12:30 pm. Sunday routes return to campus approximately 7:00 pm. Hours can vary. All trips are round-trip starting and ending in Council Bluffs; routes cover the entire state of Iowa. (Local routes not guaranteed).
