• Becoming a Work Ready Community

On November 16, 2020, the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce announced that as a community we have engaged in the process to make Pottawattamie County a certified ACT Work Ready Community. The CB Chamber is working on this effort in partnership with area members including the support of, the City of Council Bluffs, the Council Bluffs Community School District, Advanced Southwest Iowa Corp, Angel Guardians Inc., CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs, Green Hills AEA, and IowaWORKS. This practice demonstrates our commitment to developing a strong workforce pipeline, desirable to employers, economic developers, and current and future citizens of the county.

The ACT® Work Ready Communities (ACT® WRC) initiative empowers states, regions, and counties with data, processes, and tools that drive economic growth by identifying skills gaps and quantifying the skill level of their workforce. Participants leverage the ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate® (ACT® WorkKeys® NCRC®) to measure and close skills gaps and build common frameworks that link, align, and match their workforce development efforts.

Employers can be the fuel to drive successful state and county Work Ready Communities initiatives simply by recognizing the ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate®. And in doing so, they will have a more qualified workforce ready to fill their jobs.

Pottawattamie needs 128 employers recognizing the ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate®. We are pleased to announce that have 95 business enlisted since our Light it up Day, in November of 2020. We still need your support to certify our community.

Please join our efforts for FREE by certifying your business as a recognized employer.  Simply complete this quick Google Doc. Alicia Frieze, workforce development director for the CB Chamber, will register your business.  ACT® will email you with best practices in hiring the best in our community.
