• CB Chamber Recognizes Council Bluffs Businesses as Unbelievable Workplaces

    COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWAUnbelievable Workplaces is a pilot program developed and run by the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce. The program is designed to help area businesses track employee satisfaction. Area employers are able to utilize the Unbelievable Workplaces program to obtain insight from their associates, create a culture that employees will want to work in, and share their status to get recognized for the culture as an unbelievable place to work.
     
    Understanding the culture of your workplace is the best way to increase employee engagement and retention. Promoting to potential applicants that your business has been awarded this badge of honor by your staff positions a business to have better recruitment opportunities.
     
    “According to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), when an organization has a strong culture, three things happen: employees know how top management wants them to respond to any situation, employees believe that the expected response is the proper one, and employees know that they will be rewarded for demonstrating the organization's values,” says Alicia Frieze, workforce development director for the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce.
     
    According to a recent survey conducted by SHRM, one in four workers dreads going to work because they say the culture is toxic. In the past five years turnover directly related to organizational culture has cost 223 billion dollars. 58% of employees say they left their job because of the culture. Business that participate in the Unbelievable Workplaces program, receive a report that indicates that areas of strengths and opportunities for improvements. 
     
    In order for a business or organization to be receive the designation as an Unbelievable Workplaces, the following qualifications must be met:

    1. Provides the number of associates & their current turnover rate.
    2. At least 60% of their employees must respond to the survey.
    3. Receive an overall “Green” level score, as assessed by their employees.
