Program Overview

Welcome to  Intern Impact our Summer College Internship Program, a dynamic initiative designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry by connecting ambitious college students with businesses in their respective study fields. This program aims to provide valuable real-world experience to students while offering businesses a fresh perspective and the opportunity to shape the future workforce.

 

Program Objectives

  • Student Development: Provide college students with hands-on experience in their chosen field, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations and gain a deeper understanding of industry practices.
  • Industry Exposure: Expose students to the day-to-day operations, challenges, and opportunities within businesses related to their academic discipline, fostering a holistic understanding of their field.
  • Networking Opportunities: Facilitate networking between interns, industry professionals, and fellow interns, creating valuable connections that can potentially lead to future collaborations or employment opportunities.
  • Business Engagement: Encourage businesses to actively participate in shaping the next generation of professionals by sharing their expertise, insights, and industry-specific knowledge with interns.
  • Foster New Talent: We are hoping to find talent that will relocate to our area after graduation it increase our workforce and the talent available to local businesses.

 

​Program Components

  • Intern Placement: Carefully match interns with businesses based on their academic background, career goals, and the business industry.
  • Orientation: Provide interns with a comprehensive orientation to familiarize them with the business environment and expectations.
  • Mentorship: Assign mentors within the host businesses to guide interns, offer support, and provide a structured learning experience. The CB Chamber will help assign an Impact CB member as a networking/community mentor.
  • Project Assignments: Engage interns in meaningful projects that align with their academic focus and contribute to the business's objectives.
  • Professional Development: Interns will be welcome to join in Impact CB and participate in their professional development events, volunteer events, and networking. The CB Chamber will host a half-day professional development day for interns.

  • Talent Pipeline: Cultivate a pipeline of potential future employees by identifying and nurturing promising talent within the internship program. **An additional purpose of this program is to help relocate new talent to our community.
  • Skill Diversification: Interns often possess up-to-date skills and knowledge from their academic studies, providing businesses with access to the latest industry trends.
  • Cost-Effective Resource: Interns offer a cost-effective solution for businesses to address short-term projects or temporary staffing needs.

 

How Businesses Can Get Involved:

  • Host an Intern: Open your doors to college student(s) and provide them with a meaningful learning experience within your organization.
  • Networking Events: Attend networking events organized by the program to connect with potential interns and other industry professionals.
  • Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback to interns to help them grow professionally and academically.

 

How Interns Get Involved: 

  • Prepare a resume: Having a well-prepared resume and if available a profile or work will be needed for an interview.
  • Register: Complete the sign-up form below. Share it with your colleagues.
  • Interview Mocks: Having someone help you practice for an interview is ALWAYS a great idea.  For a list of potential questions to practice, search interview questions on LinkedIn.
  • Provide Feedback:  After your summer internship, you will receive a post-program survey.  Please complete the survey, questions will consist of program questions, business questions, and future development questions.

 

By participating in Intern Impact, businesses can actively contribute to the development of the next generation of professionals while gaining fresh insights and talent. Together, we can create a collaborative and mutually beneficial learning experience for both students and businesses.

 

Business participation is $150 per placed intern.  The cost is to help cover the cost of events, professional development, and other program expenses.

 

Intern participation is the cost of room and board if needed, and normal day-to-day expenses. **Dorm room rental at IWCC will be made available if needed.
